Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My media products represent a specific a social group. This group is the outgoing teenagers, that are good fans of grime music in general. My product attracts this group by having a U.S.P (Unique Selling Point). This U.S.P is the picture of a well known artist, that people would want to read about.
My products represents this group well in the costumes that my models are wearing. These are typical clothes that teenagers wear, therefore represents them well.

A way my Cover Page represents this social group is through the the use of colours on the page. As my page's fonts are dark, and the masthead of the magazine is quite dark, the audience would already begin to feel intimidated, as red (the colour of my masthead) could connote danger. Most teenagers are not seen as people that do well for a society, more of people that wreck it with their influence of vandalism and criminality. There are many negative stereotypes for teenagers, and these stereotypes are fully proven in my page.
The costume of my artist is rather simple, but very effective. As he is topless, the audience can see that this artist thinks big of himself, and obviously think his body is worth showing off to people. This is showing off his vanity, which many teenagers have. Also, his use of hat is effective because you see a lot of teens with hats like these. They wear these hats to make themselves look scarier to others, to make them feel intimidated by his presence. This is what my artist is trying to do in this image. Also, as he is wearing a mask, the audience would assume that he is trying to hide his identity because he could be some sort of criminal that is in hiding from the police. this would represent this social group well because when you think back to times like the London Riots, many people in this group were hiding their faces so no one knew who they were.

A way my Contents Page represents this social group is that the page has images of artists wearing similar costumes and striking similar poses. The costumes that they are wearing are effective they each have something in common with what teenagers seem to wear. In the large image, the artist on the left (blonde) is wearing a hooded jumper, which represents the social group well because many teenagers wear this in order to look either good or intimidating. The artist on the right (hat) is wearing something a little more smart, yet still effective. He is wearing a black long sleeve top, which could show that he cares about the way he looks, meaning he wants to look as good as possible to the audience. He is also wearing a hat, which, what i have already established, can be a way of looking intimidating for the audience. As the colour of the hat isn't as dark as the rest of his costume, the audience could see that he isn't as bad as his image makes out for him to be.
Also, through their poses, you see that they both mean business. The artist on the left has his hands in front of him, which is quite a natural pose, meaning that the job he does is easy for him. This could represent the social group well because teenagers think very well of themselves, so they would be using this pose a lot. The artist o the right has his arms crossed, showing that he is serious about where he wants to go in life and what he wants to achieve. This is effective and represents the social group well because teenagers try their best when getting what they want, and that is clearly what the artist is trying to show. As they are both looking directly at the camera, the audience would feel intimidated at the fact that they think they are looking at them specifically, with stern and serious faces.

A way my Double Page Spread represents this social group is that it uses particular language. This being in-formal. This makes the audience feel like they can relate to the magazine. This would encourage the audience to buy my magazine on a regular basis, to find out the information that is available to them. Rather than the language being Standard English and very formal, is it something that the teenage audience can read comfortably and understandably well.
Another way my Double Page Spread represents the social group well is through the image of violence. I did this through the use of a weapon in my image. Teenagers nowadays are seen as hooligans and criminals, and to prove this stereotype, i gave my artist a signature prop of a hammer. This is effective because it gives the audience a sense of intimidation as he is also looking directly at the camera, making them think that they are the ones he is looking at. This represents this social group well because teenagers are well known for keeping eye contact to ensure intimidation. This makes the person they look at feel threatened, and this is what my artist is trying to do.
